The Rochester Americans blitzed Binghamton with five first-period goals in a 10-3 win over the visiting Senators at Blue Cross Arena Friday night.
The last time the Amerks scored 10 goals in a game was a 10-4 win over Binghamton back in 2006. They’re the first team in the AHL to net 10 since Toronto’s 10-5 win over Rochester in February of 2016.
Steve Moses, Evan Rodrigues and Hudson Fasching all scored twice, while Rodrigues also added two assists. Alex Nylander and C.J. Smith each had a goal and an assist.
Rochester scored the first three goals of the game all within the opening 5 minutes, 18 seconds to help improve its record to 10-5-2-1.
Nylander scored just 52 seconds in for his first goal of the season. That was followed up a few minutes later by Rodrigues, his first of the year, and Sean Malone within 44 seconds of each other.
After a Senators goal on the power play, Moses backhanded a rebound and Fasching added a power-play goal of his own to put the Amerks up, 5-1. Binghamton scored its second with 1:08 left in the first.
Each team scored once in the second period. Brendan Guhle got his fourth of the year with 9:16 left in the middle frame and Binghamton scored again late with 1:29 left.
Rodrigues, Fasching, Moses and Smith scored in the first 6:21 of the third period. Rodrigues’ and Smith’s came on the power play, which went three for four.
Linus Ullmark saved 29 of 32 shots for his ninth win of the season. Rochester had 29 shots on goal, 17 of which came in the first 20 minutes.
The action shifts to Binghamton Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. game.
