An increased amount of traffic enforcement by State Police will continue through the Thanksgiving holiday weekend to discourage impaired, distracted, aggressive and reckless driving.
Troopers in marked and unmarked vehicles will be more of a presence on highways through Sunday with sobriety checkpoints, underage drinker enforcement and Operation Hang Up enforcement, which targets drivers talking or texting on their phones.
The Thanksgiving holiday weekend has some of the highest traffic volume of the year. During the 2016 Thanksgiving weekend, state police reported arrests of 245 drivers for DWI, and they issued 5,417 speeding tickets, 673 tickets for distracted driving, and 265 tickets for the move over law.
Motorists are asked to follow posted speed limits, put down their phones and not to drink and drive.
