Ridge Road BUILD Academy should be included in legacy
The “revered legacy” of BUILD, featured in the Nov. 21 News article should include the BUILD Academy on lower Ridge Road in Lackawanna which I remember from the 1950s.
The school at that time was housed in the former Moses Taylor Hospital building; this school was closed circa 1960s.
The Moses Taylor Hospital was established by the Lackawanna Iron & Steel Company to care for injured employees, following the relocation of their plant from Scranton, Pa., to Lackawanna in 1902. Lackawanna Steel was acquired by Bethlehem Steel in 1922, and as Bethlehem expanded operations at the Lackawanna Plant the Moses Taylor Hospital became inadequate for their hospital needs; these needs were then assumed by Our Lady of Victory Hospital.
