Lockport’s Sydney Nowicki set a school high with her Section VI-leading run in the state federation championships in Wappingers Falls. She finished eighth, the highest place in Lockport history, with a time of 18:56.2.
Section VI had one additional top 20 finisher in East Aurora’s Megan McLaughlin (14th). Her sister Molly trailed her by 25 seconds, good for 34th.
Two Maple Grove girls runners finished in the top 100: Ava Crist (43rd) and Christina Peppy (82nd). Newfane’s Kimberley Goerss finished 74th. Buffalo Seminary’s Zoe Knauss (142nd) was the top girls finisher from the Monsignor Martin Association.
On the boys side, the top two Section VI finishers were both all-state selections. Grand Island’s Ryan Buzby paced the group, finishing in ninth place with a time of 16:24.8. Cardinal O’Hara’s Tom Appenheimer clocked in at 16:46.2 (35th).
Rounding out the top 100 finishers for the boys was Maple Grove’s Michael Peppy (59th), Newfane’s Samuel Auernhamer (67th) and Canisius’ Lucas Beyer (97th).
