Lovejoy barber shop was front for cocaine operation, feds say

A Lovejoy barber shop near a public school served as the front for a cocaine operation, according to federal prosecutors.

The allegations about Barberians Barber Shop on East Lovejoy Street are the result of a Drug Enforcement Administration and Buffalo police investigation into four Buffalo men now charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

The defendants, including Stevie Alejandro, the barber shop operator, had been selling cocaine out of the barber shop since May, Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan A. Tokash said. The Lovejoy Discovery School is near the shop.

Alejandro, 31, and Cleophus Dentmond, 28; Gilbert Guzman, 48; and Catherine Ramos, 29, were arraigned this week before U.S.Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy.
