The Buffalo Preservation Board has given its unanimous approval to grant local landmark status for the Wildroot building, 1740 Bailey Ave.
The advisory recommendation now goes to the Buffalo Common Council for final approval.
The board concluded the building met four four requirements for landmark status. They included exemplifying the historic architectural, economic or cultural heritage of the city, and representing a unique location or physical characteristic that made it an established visual feature in the city.
"I'm excited that they overwhelmingly recognized the building's importance, and that it was met with full support from the public and the board," said Mark Paradowski, who has spearheaded efforts to save the building.
The Wildroot building was sold to Omar Sain for $1,000 at a city foreclosure sale Oct. 26.
