Collins’ fuzzy tax math adds up for the wealthy
Chris Collins’ opinion in the Nov. 11 News, “It’s real tax relief,” regarding the lying, hypocritical Republicans’ ham-fisted efforts to enact tax reform/relief “for the American people” is simply another “false and misleading” statement foisted upon his constituents in the 27th district.
It is a slap in the face to the people he represents and an embarrassment to the people of Western New York. It will not bring real relief to middle-income citizens as he states.
He claims the “proof is in the numbers.” False. The numbers show that 80 percent of the tax breaks will go to the top 1 percent of the income earners in our country – just what they need, don’t you think?
Another misleading statement is his claim that “the United States has the highest corporate income tax rate in the world.” The reality is that not a single corporation in the Fortune 500 top companies pays anywhere near the top 35 percent rate listed.
Mr. Collins continues his misleading claims by boasting that the money saved by corporations under the lower rates will give them more money for research, investments, to hire more workers and pay higher wages – the old Reagan “trickle down” phony theory proven false a long time ago. The companies give the profits to shareholders who line their pockets and fatten their stock options with them.
I hope the citizens of Western New York are smart enough to realize that Chris Collins’ statements are “fake news” and should be dismissed as just another lie by a staunch Trump supporter and sycophant!
