Angola native to fight for MMA world title Saturday in Salamanca

A local mixed martial artist is set to headline a nationally broadcast event at the Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino in Salamanca on Saturday night.

The main fight of the King of the Cage event features Patrick "Patchy" Mix of Angola and Andrew Ewell of Riverside, Calif., for the vacant world flyweight title.

Mix, who wrestled scholastically at Lake Shore and is the coach of the junior varsity team at Sweet Home, has never lost a fight as a professional and amateur. His pro record of 5-0 and amateur record of 11-0 has made him one of the top rising stars in MMA.

Ewell has won his last four fights and is 9-3 overall.

"Training has been going well," Mix said. "I've gained a lot of confidence training at the most prestigious gym in the world Jackson wink in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with the best fighters in the world. Andre presents a lot of problems, but nothing I haven't seen before. I am ready to step in front of front of my hometown and win this world title and bring it back to Angola."

Doors open at 5 p.m. Fighting starts at 6 p.m. This event is broadcast on MAVTV, which is available on DIRECTTV, Verizon Fios, Time Warner Cable and other regional distributors.
