Police: 3 charged with animal cruelty after neglected dog rescued from fire

Three people in Jamestown face animal cruelty charges after authorities said they found a dog suffering from extreme neglect following a fire Thursday morning.

The fire was reported about 9:20 a.m. at 12 Mt. Vernon Place, Jamestown police said. Everyone escaped the home safely and firefighters rescued two dogs from inside the building.

One of the dogs – a toy poodle named Mia – was covered in feces and open sores, had a large cyst on its abdomen and had extremely matted hair, police said. The dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.

David M. Wright, 31, William L. Wright, 39, and Lisa A Bortz, 40, were charged with animal cruelty, police said. They were being held in the Jamestown City Jail awaiting arraignment.
