At the City of Tonawanda's foreclosure auction on Dec. 2, five of the 12 properties for sale will go directly to the Buffalo Erie Niagara Land Improvement Corp., also known as the Land Bank.
City of Tonawanda Treasurer Joseph M. Hogenkamp said the Land Bank can be used as a tool to stabilize a neighborhood.
"It's not so much that you are looking to make money off (the sale)," said Hogenkamp. "You can put a home back on the tax rolls and put a family into the house that's living there – going to the schools and supporting local businesses."
Properties donated to the land bank are: 231 Adam St.; 47 Maldiner Ave.; 19 Grove Terrace; 23 Enterprises St.; and a vacant lot at 91 Fuller Ave. Auctions International will handle the sales.
Registration is at 8 a.m. and the auction at 10 a.m. at City Hall, 200 Niagara St.
