The Turkey Trot has sold out at 14,000 runners strong

Registration for the Turkey Trot has closed after 14,000 runners signed up for the 8K Thanksgiving morning run down Delaware Avenue.

Geoffrey Falkner, YMCA Buffalo Niagara Communications Director, announced at 5:16 p.m. Wednesday that the race field was full.

The regional Y, which organizes the event, limits the field to 14,000 for safety reasons.

The nearly 5-mile race is the YMCA Buffalo Niagara’s largest fundraising event. Proceeds support the Y’s financial assistance program. More than $300,000 was raised last Thanksgiving.

The race will start at 9 a.m. Nov. 23 at Delaware and Tacoma avenues in North Buffalo. The Independent Health Family Branch YMCA – between Main Street and Wherle Drive at 150 Tech Drive, just east of the Erie Community College North Campus in Amherst – will host a Runners' expo and pre-race packet pickup from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Nov. 22.
