Letter on monuments omits historical facts

The recent letter stating that the Confederate monuments remain based on history did not discuss the cause of the war, who started the war, the election of Benjamin Harrison, the end of Reconstruction and the advent of Jim Crow and the proliferation of pro-Confederate monuments after 1890 coupled with enforced segregation laws in the former secessionist states, and the domestic terrorist anti-constitutional Ku Klux Klan.

There is more to the Civil War than battles, strategy and tactics. Maybe the monuments should remain, but with the proviso that a very large civics lesson plaque be attached to each that explains how and why a fully entrenched entitled politically powerful economic class led their region into an insurrection.

Myths are not fact, no matter how attached anyone is to the myth.
