Downtown growth a draw for new Perks Cafe location

Growth on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus and a desire to have a downtown location led Perks Cafe to plan a second location on Main Street.

The cafe plans to open another coffee house and restaurant in mid-December at 777 Main St. at Goodell Street, expanding beyond its site at Elmwood Avenue and Bryant Street.

At its new spot, Perks will occupy 5,000 square feet of space that formerly was home to Kaydara Noodle Bar.

Cafe operations director Julie Leone said the Medical Campus weighed heavily in their decision for a second location, coupled with Perks' interest to have a downtown presence again. Perks got its start at Broadway and Ellicott Street.

"We're excited to expand. It's a good location," Leone said. "There's a coffee shop on Allen, but I think we're far enough away and will be more of a destination instead."
