Bank on Buffalo is expanding its branch network to Amherst.
The bank on Thursday will open its third area branch, at 5190 Sheridan Drive, which used to be a First Niagara Bank branch. The location, near Hopkins Road, closed in October 2016, when KeyBank combined its branch network with First Niagara's.
Bank on Buffalo didn't acquire the deposits associated with the Sheridan Drive branch. But the First Niagara branch in June 2016 ranked 12th highest in deposits among the bank's 39 Erie County branches at the time, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
Bank on Buffalo's original branch is in the downtown Electric Tower. A second branch, at 3049 Orchard Park Road in Orchard Park, opened earlier this month.
The division of Clearfield, Pa.-based CNB Bank is exploring locations for a fourth branch. Bank president Martin Griffith said this month he expected the bank will need somewhere between six and 12 branches to achieve its goal of growing to $1 billion in deposits in the next several years.
