A new Bills tailgating tradition: Visits from Sean McDermott

Fans who frequent the tailgating lots before Buffalo Bills games have a long list of traditions, bowling-ball shots not least among them.

Add one more to the list: Visits before and after the game from Bills head coach Sean McDermott.

“He seems like a great guy,” said Scott Zasowski of Lancaster, who posed for a picture with McDermott following the Bills’ Sept. 24 win against Denver. “He was walking around, thanking everyone for their support.”

McDermott has been known to take trips through the RV parking lot across Abbott Road from New Era Field this season. Sunday morning was no exception, as McDermott met fans around 9 a.m. before the Bills’ matchup with the New Orleans Saints.

Rob Foley, 25, of Long Island, was among the fans who met McDermott on Sunday.

“He just seems very relaxed, mellow,” Foley said. “You’d probably want to sit at a bar and just talk for a couple hours.”

Brandon Beane, the Bills’ general manager, joined McDermott, as well, on Sunday morning. They surprised fans and posed for pictures.

ESPN reporter Sal Paolantonio even accompanied McDermott Sunday morning on a ride-along trip outside New Era Field.

Zasowski told McDermott he appreciates how the head coach has approached his job with the Bills and added, “You’re doing a great job.”
