Niagara County clerk sets more briefings on pistol permit recertification

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski announced Thursday that he will hold two more public information sessions next week on state-mandated pistol permit recertification.

The meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Calvin K. Richards Senior Center, 7000 Lockport Road, Town of Niagara, and 7 p.m. Tuesday in Lockport Town Hall, 6560 Dysinger Road.

The NY SAFE Act requires all pistol permit holders to renew their permits every five years, and those who had permits before 2013 must recertify by Jan. 31.

“Gun owners are concerned about this requirement, and many of them have very specific questions and very unique circumstances,” Jastrzemski said. “We’re working to make sure they don’t find their Second Amendment rights jeopardized."
