Letter: Trump’s leadership looks increasingly authoritarian

Trump’s leadership looks increasingly authoritarian

Examine what Trump is doing and ask yourself if it looks like a democracy or a banana republic.

He calls his political opponents criminals and asks the federal courts to prosecute them. He appoints his immediate family to high political positions, takes from the poor to help the rich while refusing to divest from certain interests and increases his wealth from the patronage of the 1 percent.

He turns the local police into a paramilitary force to suppress assembly and free speech. He defames the press and weakens it with political manipulation. And then awards government projects to his cronies whom he either owes or can profit from.

He attempts to denigrate elections by declaring voter fraud where there is none and co-opts the military (“the generals”) into the executive branch with patronage.
