Eric Wood will let his hair down, raise money at benefit Monday night

Bills center Eric Wood will host a party for teammates and fans — and likely show off his singing voice — at his annual Flights and Bites fundraiser Monday night at Big Ditch Brewing Co. in downtown Buffalo.

“We’re trying to raise some money for families that have sick children and Western New York and make an impact,” Wood said Friday. “This is the third one we’ve had. It’s grown every year. We still have a few tickets left, but it generally sells out.”

Tickets for the event can be purchased here. It runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Casual attire is recommended. Outside memorabilia is prohibited.

Attendees will be given a flight card for five different 5 ounce craft beers and appetizers will be served. Signed memorabilia also will be available for auction.

Wood said last year’s event raised more than $8,000 for his foundation to support chronically ill pediatric patients and their families.

Since renamed The Eric Wood Fund, the organization recently partnered with the Children’s Hospital of Buffalo Foundation and the not-for-profit Stone’s Buddies to broaden its reach.

“We are excited and proud to align our work with this extraordinary team,” Wood said in a news release. “By partnering with The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo Foundation and Stone’s Buddies, we have the opportunity to support an even broader population of in-need children and their families. Together, we can make an unprecedented, positive impact on their lives.”

Money raised will support programs for the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital’s fifth floor, a dedicated resource and support services center for patients and their families, as well as Stone’s Buddies’ mission to provide chronically ill patients and families with coping strategics.

“The Eric Wood Fund’s mission is an ideal companion to our work in the community,” said Joanne Koessler-Lana, Stone’s Buddies director. “The passion, devotion and generosity Eric Wood has for in-need children speaks volumes and we couldn’t ask for a more dedicated partner to help accomplish our mission.”
