The Genesee County Planning Board on Thursday recommended approval of the new "Euro-style" roller coaster proposed for Darien Lake theme park after reviewing a site plan submitted by theme park officials.
"The project is not difficult to review and recommend," said Felipe Oltramari, director of the planning board. "It is not a huge change."
The proposed roller coaster is replacing an existing ride, the Thunder Rapids log flume, and it should pose no significant impact to the community or the county, Oltramari added.
Documents filed with the county include drawings of roller coasters submitted by Gerstlauer Amusement Rides, a German manufacturer, that show rides that range in height from 73 to 141 feet and feature tracks with descents of between 97 and 121 degrees.
The Darien Town Planning Board is scheduled to meet at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 to consider the plan.
