Canisius junior Jibreel Faulkner will miss the first 16 games of the men's basketball season, the school's athletic department announced Friday.
Faulkner's suspension stems from an NCAA violation during his time at a previous institution. Canisius was made aware of his potential eligibility issue via a phone call from the NCAA in August 2017.
The Washington, D.C. native spent the 2015-16 academic year at San Jacinto Junior College in Pasadena, Texas. He played in six games for the Griffs last season, averaging 3.2 points and 1.2 rebounds per game.
Faulkner will continue to be enrolled as a student-athlete at Canisius and will have the ability to fully practice with the team during his suspension. He'll be eligible to return on Jan. 7, when the Griffs visit Siena.
