Lackawanna (Class B) and Lafayette (Class D) continue their most-successful seasons in school history on Saturday in the NYSPHSAA semifinals in Middletown, while Catholic champ St. Joe’s heads to Queens for a semifinal game Friday evening.
The Steelers play at Twin Towers Middle School at 9:15 a.m. against Section II’s Ichabod Crane, which lost in the state semifinals to eventual-champ Hastings of Section I last season. Winner advances to the state final Sunday at Middletown High School at 10 a.m.
The Violets face Section VII power Chazy at Middletown High School at 8:30 a.m. Chazy won seven state titles in a 10-year span from 2004-2013, lost in the state semifinals in 2014 to I-Prep/Grover, which went onto win a state title, and lost in the state semis last season. Winner advances to Sunday’s final at Middletown High School at 1 p.m.
The Marauders, back in the state Catholic tournament for the first time since 2014, play Chaminade at 5 p.m. Friday at St. John’s University. The winner faces either Regis or St. Francis Prep Sunday afternoon at St. John’s for the championship. St. Joe’s claimed its only state title back in 1995.
