State playoff preview: Allegany-Limestone, Clarence, Nichols girls soccer

Clarence makes its way to Cortland for a fourth straight final four appearance, where its season has ended the last three years to teams that have went on to win state titles. Awaiting at SUNY Cortland at 5:30 p.m. Saturday is a familiar foe in Section VIII’s Massapequa, which beat the Red Devils in 2014 (1-0) and 2015 (2-0). Massapequa was on the other side of the bracket last season and lost in the final to a Section I Arlington team that eliminated Clarence (1-0). Winner advances to Sunday’s 3 p.m. final at Cortland High School.

Allegany-Limestone is back in the state semifinals for the first time since it was state co-champs in 2002. The Gators face Section XI’s Southhold/Greenport at 5:30 p.m. at Homer High School, with the final being played Sunday at 12:30 p.m. back at Homer High School. The last time a Section VI girls soccer team won a state title was in 2013, by Holland in Class C.

The winner of that game plays for the state title on Sunday at 1 p.m. at SUNY Maritime College in the Bronx. The Vikings last won a state Catholic title in 2010 and were state finalists in 2011.
