Anglers cited for fishing at 3 a.m. and illegally possessing salmon on Eighteen Mile Creek

The state Department of Environmental Conservation Police cited four New York city area men for fishing after legal hours last month on Eighteen Mile Creek in Newfane, the DEC reported Thursday. The department also filed other charges in connection with the incident.

The DEC said Environmental Conservation Officer Mike Phelps used night vision equipment to first spot the group of four fishermen about 2:30 a.m., Oct. 21.

Phelps tracked down the anglers and found nine king salmon in their van, the DEC said.

Besides being charged with fishing after legal hours, three of the four men were charged with illegal possession of salmon. One man was cited for fishing by means other than angling and another for fishing without a valid license.
