Mark Gaughan's Big Play Breakdown: Saints' 3-level stretch pass

The Saints' pass offense has been ranked in the top four in the NFL 11 straight years. One of its many strengths is beating zone coverage with three-level stretch plays in which quarterback Drew Brees has options deep, middle and underneath.

This was a 21-yard pass Brees hit on Sean McDermott's Carolina defense in a 41-38 win over the Panthers last season. The receiver wide to the right cleared out and drew the safety over the top. Brees hit the intermediate pass to the right sideline. Brees ranks No. 5 in NFL history in avoiding sacks. He makes the right decision on which level to exploit.
