Inclement weather forces rescheduling of Canisius-St. Joe's soccer final

Tonight's Monsignor Martin boys soccer final between St. Joe's and Canisius has been rescheduled due to inclement weather, officials said.

The championship will instead be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the Canisius College Demske Complex, said Pete Schneider, the Monsignor Martin High School Athletic Association executive director.

St. Joe’s and Canisius played two tie games in regular season meetings, 0-0 and 1-1.

Canisius fell to St. Joe's in 2014 in the Monsignor Martin Championship on penalty kicks. But Canisius has gone on to repeat as winner of the Monsignor Martin regular season and playoff titles.

Both teams won their semifinals this week, setting up Monday's championship.

Canisius was able to score three times heading into the wind in the first half and went on to a 4-0 victory over St. Francis in a Division A semifinal at the Stransky Complex. Derek Bartlo, Eamon O’Brien, Mitch Stein and John Uba scored for the Crusaders.

Joe Franczak and Tom Stankowski scored in the second half for St. Joe’s in its 2-0 semifinal win over Nichols.
