Tonawanda to seek developers for Huntley Power Plant site

Town of Tonawanda officials plan to issue an "Expression of Interest" to seek proposals from energy companies, site selectors and developers interested in redeveloping the Huntley Generating Station site in Tonawanda.

The town officials will be joined by New York State, Erie County and Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda school district officials at a news conference Wednesday morning outside the former coal-fired power plant to announce their efforts to encourage the potential development and repurposing of the Huntley site.

The plant ceased operations in March of 2016, which meant the loss of $6 million in annual school, town and county tax revenues, as well as 79 jobs.

The press conference was announced for 10 a.m. Wednesday at 3500 River Road.
