What to watch for Tuesday
1. Girls soccer - Section VI Class AA, A & B finals
Winners advance to the Far West Regionals either Friday or Saturday at Williamvsville South.
Class AA: 1-Clarence vs. 3-Williamsville North, 6 p.m. at Williamsville East
ECIC I rivals Clarence and Williamsville North meet at 6 p.m. with the Class AA championship on the line.
The Red Devils won 2-0 and 1-0 games over the Spartans during the regular season. They're led on offense by Emma Faso (18 goals, 11 assists) and Cassandra Bykowicz (10 goals). North's top scorers are Chloe Hurrell (nine goals) and Lianna Vansice (eight goals).
Class A: Grand Island (A-1) vs. Pioneer (A-2), 7:30 p.m. at Williamsville South
The Vikings look to defend their sectional title against the Panthers and their high-scoring star.
Grand Island (18-1) has only given up five goals all season. One came in a 1-0 loss at Aquinas at Sept. 27. Since then, the Vikings have won nine in a row all via shutout. Brooke Amato (13 goals) and Ana Mascaro (10 goals, seven assists) are among the top offensive players.
Pioneer (18-0-1) senior Meghan Root is the leading scorer in Section VI with 45 goals on the year. Sophomore Ashley Bliss (18 goals, 16 assists) is one of four players with at least 13 assists for the Panthers, whose lone blemish is a 3-3 tie at East Aurora on Sept. 19.
Class B: Newfane (B-1) vs. Akron (B-2), 5:30 p.m. at Williamsville South
The top two teams from the Niagara-Orleans League battle it out for the overall Class B championship. Newfane and Akron split decisions during the regular season, each winning 2-0 games at home.
The Panthers (16-2-1), who are the defending Class B champs, started the year 5-2-1 with losses to Aquinas and Akron and a tied to Albion. They've won 11 games in a row since Sept. 20. The senior duo of Kayleigh Daniels (28 goals, 16 assists) and Emily Foltz (26 goals, 11 assists) are dangerous offensively.
The Tigers (13-4) losses have come to Hamburg, Newfane, Wilson and Iroquois. They avenged that loss against Wilson with a 3-0 win over the Lakewomen in the Class B-2 final on Saturday. Kara Seguin (29 goals, 13 assists) and Jenna Robnett (15 goals, 15 assists) are the top offensive players.
2. Football - Section VI media day at New Era Field
The 10 teams left in the Section VI football playoffs introduce themselves to the local media at 10 a.m.
