Motorcyclist strikes deer, gets pinned under another vehicle in Derby

A motorcyclist was seriously injured Friday morning after he struck a deer on Route 5 and became pinned under another vehicle, Evans police said.

The motorcyclist, who was not identified, was heading east near the New Era Cap plant, 8061 Erie Road, just before 7:30 a.m. when the operator collided with a deer, police said.

He went down in the road and slid into the westbound lanes of Route 5 where the motorcycle was struck by another vehicle. The motorcycle and vehicle became entangled, police said.

Emergency personnel treated the motorcyclist at the scene before Mercy Flight transported him to Erie County Medical Center.

The crash remains under investigation by Evans police.

A stretch of the roadway was closed for several hours between Bennett and Backus roads. It reopened at about 10:30 a.m.
