Parts of pickup at crash scene lead to DWI charge for North Buffalo man

A North Buffalo man called a tow-truck driver to haul a damaged pickup away from his Hartwell Road home early Thursday morning. The tow-truck driver noticed the Chevrolet Silverado was damaged – it looked like it had side-swiped a vehicle, according to a Buffalo police report.

The tow-truck driver ran into some trouble with his customer at about 5 a.m., so he called police, the report said.

Officers discovered that truck parts found several blocks away on Virgil Avenue – where several vehicles had been struck at about 2 a.m. – matched Christopher M. Bonus' pickup, according to the report.

Bonus, 37, failed several field sobriety tests and refused to submit to a breath test. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, according to the report.
