Orchard Park graduate Morgan Wellenzohn was named Big Ten Diver of the Week on Oct. 18 by the conference.
Wellenzohn is a junior at Michigan State. It's her first conference honor.
Also, she's the first Spartans diver to earn the weekly award from the Big Ten since Oct. 25, 2015.
“I’m very happy for Morgan," Michigan State coach Matt Gianiodis said in a statement. "She’s one of our most veteran divers, and she’s shown a lot of leadership. Being named Big Ten Diver of the Week is an honor for her and our program.”
Wellenzohn finished with a score of 256.80 in the 3-meter dive in a tri-meet against No. 25 Notre Dame and No. 5 Texas A&M. She followed that last Friday by capturing the 3-meter and 1-meter diving events in NCAA Regional qualifying point totals of 287.75 and 261.22, respectively, in a dual-meet win against Illinois.
Wellenzohn shined during her time with the Quakers, finishing third and fourth at the New York State Public High Schools Athletic Association diving championships her junior and senior seasons.
Michigan State returns to action Friday at University of Pittsburgh against Pitt, James Madison and Miami (Fla.).
