Senator’s remarks were unbelievable
I almost could not believe what I was reading when I saw State Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr., D-Bronx, comment on the proposed state constitutional amendment that would strip pensions from officials who are convicted of felonies related to their work. He said, “This is wrong. I mean, if I do something bad, I should go to jail. But then my wife and my children are left out on the street.”
Dear Mr. Diaz: If you are not thinking about the future of your wife and children while committing a felony, then why should the taxpayers of New York? If this is the cultural thinking of our legislative officials, maybe we taxpayers should take a harder look into whom we elect to public office.
