Letter: Both sides share blame for economic meltdown

Both sides share blame for economic meltdown

A quick internet search on “Deregulation of banks” turns up many articles that attribute the deregulation of banks to the Financial Services Modernization Act, passed by Congress and signed by President Bill Clinton on Nov. 12, 1999. It was also strongly supported by Clinton economic advisers.

President George W. Bush was inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2001. Perhaps the writer of the recent letter, “We’ve seen this before and it won’t be pretty,” should consider a somewhat broader list of causes for the horrendous economic conditions that followed.
