A Monroe County man who led Lockport police on a chase after his vehicle struck a tree accepted a misdemeanor plea offer Friday in State Supreme Court.
Marquis J. Caliz, 28, of Gates, was charged with several felonies, including attempted assault on a police officer. He pleaded guilty to unlawfully fleeing an officer, obstructing governmental administration, leaving the scene of an accident, running a stop sign and failure to signal a turn. Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. set sentencing for Jan. 17.
Caliz struck a tree on Allen Street in Lockport on the night of Jan. 4. There were several children in his vehicle, but Caliz refused to exit the vehicle and drove off, Niagara County Second Assistant District Attorney Mary Jean Bowman said. He was caught after a brief pursuit.
