Bills set to face Raiders secondary depleted by injuries

The Oakland Raiders come to Buffalo with a depleted secondary as cornerbacks David Amerson (foot) and Gareon Conley (shin) have been ruled out and strong safety Karl Joseph (groin) is listed as doubtful.

The Raiders' cornerback group would be T.J. Carrie, Sean Smith, Dexter McDonald and Demetrius McCray.

Joseph is the Raiders' second-leading tackler behind Carrie and has played 440 of the team's 450 defensive snaps this season, according to the San Jose Mercury News. Without Joseph, Oakland likely will turn to rookie Shalom Luani, who made a strong impression in the preseason.

“He’s got great instincts and is a natural playmaker,” coach Jack Del Rio told Bay Area reporters Friday. “He’s been champing at the bit for an opportunity. If Karl doesn’t end up being able to go, then he’s excited to get his turn.”

Five other Raiders, including three linebackers, were listed as questionable: LB Cory James (knee), P Marquette King (right groin), LB Marquel Lee (ankle), LB Nicholas Morrow (ankle) and T Marshall Newhouse (foot).
