The Tonawanda Town Board voted to purchase its first electric car for use by its building and electrical inspector and also will install a dedicated charging station for the vehicle.
The 2018 Chevy Volt will be purchased for $29,987. It will replace a vehicle more than 11 years old, said Councilman William Conrad.
The purchase, along with a Solarize Tonawanda campaign, are part of a campaign to secure a competitive $150,000 New York State Energy Research and Development Agency grant.
The final workshop for residents interested in discounted solar installations will be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Kenmore Community Center, 135 Wilber Ave.
Conrad said interest has been growing steadily since the town started the solar campaign. About 300 people attended six meetings, he said.
