Lancaster remains the state's second-ranked team in the New York State Sportswriters' Class AA poll this week.
Lancaster brings an 8-0 record into its Section VI semifinal contest Friday night against Jamestown. Canisius (6-2) stands at No. 15 in Class AA, while unbeaten Williamsville North (8-0) is ranked 16th. Jamestown (5-3) and Niagara Falls (4-4) were among the honorable mentions on the list.
Section VI has two teams ranked among the top eight in Class A in West Seneca West (8-0) at No. 5 and South Park (8-0) ranked eighth. Iroquois cracked the top 25, moving in at No. 23 following last week's triumph over previously state ranked Starpoint. Starpoint, West Seneca East and Grand Island are among honorable mentions.
In Class B, four teams are among the ranked, led by No. 10 Cheektowaga (7-1). Maryvale (7-1) is 12th, while Lackawanna (7-1) and Dunkirk (7-1) stand 19th and 20th, respectively.
In Class C, Cleveland Hill (7-1) is ranked fourth, while Southwestern (6-2) comes in at No. 17. In Class D, unbeaten Franklinville/Ellicottville holds steady at No. 8, while Maple Grove (7-1) is 10th. Clymer/Sherman/Panama (7-1) stands 17th.
