While Sinbad may not be as ubiquitous as he was in the ’90s, he remains a hard-working touring headlining comedian. The Michigan native returns to Buffalo for a weekend of shows at Helium Comedy Club.
Sinbad first gained attention as a finalist on the television talent show “Star Search.” He was then cast with a breakout role on the popular NBC sitcom “A Different World” in 1987, and soon parlayed that success into other television shows, movies and comedy specials. In the 1990s, Sinbad produced and starred in his own Fox show, “The Sinbad Show,” appeared in movies like “Houseguest,” “First Kid” and “Jingle All the Way,” and recorded four HBO specials.
As of late, Sinbad has lent his voice to Disney projects like the film “Planes” and show “The Lion Guard,” as well as the animated show “American Dad!” He has revived his stand-up career over the past decade with two specials for Comedy Central.
Sinbad: 8 p.m. Oct. 26, and 7:30 and 10 p.m. Oct. 27 and 28 at Helium Comedy Club (31 Mississippi St.). Tickets are $30 (box office, buffalo.heliumcomedy.com).
