Homeroom Announcements: Monday's big games & more

Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Monday

1. Boys soccer - Class C semifinals at Pioneer

Two teams will book their trip to Friday's Class C final at Sweet Home at 7:30 p.m.

2-Westfield/Brocton vs. 3-Maple Grove, 5 p.m.

After losing five of seven games in the middle of the season, Westfield/Brocton (9-7-1) is currently on a 5-1-1 streak. Sophomore Jason Almeter has a team-high 11 goals. The Red Dragons (11-4-1) are led offensively by Caleb Foley (nine goals) and Jack Novotny (eight goals).

1-Allegany-Limestone vs. 4-Holland, 7:30 p.m.

The Gators (16-1) are led offensively by the duo of Dylan Talbot (19 goals, 11 assists) and Sam Flanders (15 goals, seven assists). The Dutchmen (8-7-1) are currently riding a four-game winning streak. Hunter Pielechowski leads the team in goals with 12.

2. Girls soccer - Class D semifinals at Dunkirk

The winners advance to Saturday's final back at Dunkirk at 1:30 p.m.

2-Frewsburg vs. 3-Ellicottville, 6 p.m.

The Bears (9-6-1) have played top-seeded North Collins tough this year with a 2-2 tie and 2-1 loss. Maddie Sohl (20 goals) and Gabby Iuculano (17 goals, 13 assists) are a high-scoring duo. The Eagles (10-6) are led offensively by Evie Cortez (11 goals) and Hayly Fredrickson (eight goals).

1-North Collins vs. 4-Franklinville, 8 p.m.

Defending-champ North Collins (13-2-1) picked up where it left off last season. Both of its losses came against Class C schools by one goal. Emma Kron is among the top 20 scorers in Section VI with 22 goals. The Panthers (8-7-2) backed into the playoffs with a 0-4-1 streak but won a 6-0 game in the first round against Pine Valley.

3. Boys volleyball - Eden at Maryvale, 6 p.m.

No. 2 Eden hosts No. 4 Maryvale for the ECIC III regular season title.

The Raiders swept Maryvale at home on Sept. 22. Drew Hesse had 12 kills and Collin Rigley added 10. Eden has won more than 100 league games in a row, a streak that dates back 10-plus years.

The Flyers are Eden's top threat in the division. Maryvale swept No. 7 Orchard Park last week in a nonleague matchup. Jordan Nosal had six aces and four blocks, and setter Nate Zawadzki led the offense with 23 assists.

4. Field hockey - Class A, B & C quarterfinals

Monday is the first full day of playoff action in field hockey.

Class A
- 5-Kenmore at 4-Lancaster, 3 p.m.
Class B
- 8-Hamburg at 1-Iroquois, 3:30 p.m.
- 5-Pioneer at 4-Amherst, 4 p.m.
- 7-Starpoint at 2-Williamsville East, 6 p.m.
- 6-Sweet Home at 3-Williamsville South, 3 p.m.
Class C
- 5-Medina at 4-Holland, 3 p.m.
- 6-Wilson at 3-Roy-Hart, 3 p.m.
- 7-Eden at 2-Barker, 6:30 p.m. at Medina

Defending Class B champ Iroquois opens up with a home game against Hamburg. The top contenders to dethrone the Chiefs include Williamsville East and South.

Top-seeded Akron has a bye in Class C, while defending-champ Barker hosts Eden in the first round in a game at Medina.

Honor roll
