State Park Police believe a person went over Niagara Falls on Sunday afternoon and are keeping an eye out for a body below the falls and in the lower Niagara River.
A husband and wife from Ohio reported seeing a body in the water that went over the American Falls just after noon Sunday, Park Police Maj. Patrick Moriarty said.
The witnesses had detailed information about what they saw. Police say they were the only ones on a pedestrian bridge in Niagara Falls State Park when they spotted the white male in the water, police said.
The river in that area moves quickly and if the body was out in the middle of the waterway, it's possible crowds on the shore would not have seen the person, Moriarty said.
Authorities have not recovered a body but have been checking the river as part of patrol duties. The agency has also notified partner agencies and other rescuers on both the American and Canadian sides, Moriarty said.
Police did receive one phone call Monday from a person concerned about a missing U.S. resident and investigators are looking into the matter.

Officers on Sunday checked the shoreline while personnel in a helicopter scanned the water from above and the Coast Guard joined in the search.
