NIAGARA FALLS – After a glass entry door was broken early Friday, at least six different people took turns burglarizing the Mobil Mart at 1038 Pine Ave., police said, with over $4,300 worth of merchandise ultimately being stolen.
The store's alarm system apparently failed during the initial break-in, allowing thieves to enter three times over a five-and-a-half hour period to cash in.
The pilferage parade began at 12:25 a.m., when video surveillance shows two black males, appearing to be teens, approach the store and throw a rock through the bottom portion of the front glass door, shattering it. They entered and stole unknown items, police said, before leaving. About 90 minutes later, three other men entered via the same door and left with bags full of merchandise.
Finally, at 5:57 a.m. one of the original men returned, this time with a new partner, and made off with even more merchandise. Police said that the total haul included 30 cartons of cigarettes, boxes of cigars, energy drinks, about $60 worth of snack foods and close to $1,000 in scratch-off lottery tickets.
The break-in was finally discovered at 6:23 a.m.
