BONTRAGER - Rebecca "Becky" (nee Kipfer)
93 years (as of October 26, 2017), of Alden, NY, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 11:55pm at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN. She had been in Tennessee, in the loving care of her daughter, Meriul Bontrager Easton and son-in-law Bill Easton, since February, 2017. Prior to that she had lived at Greenfields, Lancaster, NY, along with several other facilities in western NY. She was the loving wife of John Bontrager, Jr. (who preceded her in death), for 60 years. Becky was born in Alden, NY to the late Amos & Rebecca (Lichti) Kipfer. Although Becky had to leave Alden High School to help on her family's farm, she received her High School Equivalence Degree in 1967. Becky was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She enjoyed the arts and writing poetry, but her greatest joy was sharing her love of Jesus with others. She was a prayer warrior, desiring that others would personally experience the love, joy, peace and assurance that Christ brought to her life. Becky served as the president of the Buffalo Chapter of the International Women's Aglow and then began the nighttime chapter of the Tonawanda, NY Women's Aglow. She was also a member of the Elma, NY Chapter of Women's Aglow. Becky was a member of Alden Mennonite Church since childhood. In 1984, she and her husband, John began attending The Tabernacle in Orchard Park, NY where she worshiped for 20+ years, eventually returning to The Alden Mennonite Church. Becky is survived by her children, Jane Backofen of Willow Grove, PA, Meriul (husband William) Easton of Nashville, TN, Patricia (husband William) Strunk of Alden, NY, John Bontrager IV of Alden, NY and Martha Joy/Marti (husband Kenneth) Alderfer of Arlington, VA; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson; and 2 brothers, Melvin (wife Glenda) Kipfer and Joseph "Joe" (wife Josephine "Josie") Kipfer. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Laurane (late Allen) Erb, Rita (late Walter) Schmidt, Aurelia (Calvin) Beachy; and 2 brothers, Nelson (late Anna Lea) and Amos (late Dorothy) Kipfer. Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Alden Mennonite Church, 923 Two Rod Rd., Alden, NY. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 26th at 11 AM at Alden Mennonite Church, 923 Two Rod Rd., Alden, NY. There will be a private family burial service, preceding the funeral, at The County Line Road Cemetery, Alden, NY at 9:30 AM.
