Time to stop pettiness, focus on critical issues
It’s about time to put an end to all of the folderol regarding the kneeling by some NFL players.
First, a quick review of the history. This all started with Colin Kaepernick’s kneeling to protest the unequal treatment of black men by some of the law enforcement agencies in the U.S. That purpose was made clear to the world in subsequent interviews.
It was thereafter politicized by President Trump during one of his base-pleasing campaign-style rallies in Alabama, where he totally misconstrued the intent of the protest, claiming it was a disparagement to the country, the military and the flag. It was a clear play to his base and a slap at all of our First Amendment rights. Clearly not the original intent of the display.
Solution: Let the players display their sympathy with Kaepernick and take a knee, if they so choose, while holding their right hand across their hearts to display their respect for the American flag, military and country.
It’s time to put the focus on health care, tax reform and infrastructure rebuilding, and not this pettiness.
