Fans and taxpayers pay salaries of NFL players
An Everybody’s Column opinion that appeared in the Oct. 12 edition made an incorrect statement. The letter writer stated that the “NFL signs their paycheck, not the USA” in reference to the players who kneel during the national anthem. Actually, it is the taxpayers, through tax subsidies and exemptions, i.e. stadiums, and the fans, who purchase tickets and merchandise, who provide the funds that enable the NFL and its teams to pay their athletes.
Ultimately, it will be the taxpayers and fans who will decide whether or not to support the kneelers. Has anyone noticed the declining sales and ratings lately? Let’s get the facts straight before deciding to support these kneelers.
