GOSNEY, Joseph R. Jr.

GOSNEY, Joseph R. Jr.

GOSNEY - Joseph R. Jr. Age 67, of Newark, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017. Joe was born on January 26, 1950, to the late Joseph Sr. and Olga (Hacola) Gosney in Buffalo, New York.
After growing up in Buffalo, Joe attended Ohio Northern University and earned a bachelor's degree in engineering 1962. In 1963 he went on to the University of Florida to earn a master's degree and begin a lifelong obsession with the Gators.
Joe married Carolyn (Lienert) Gosney on April 2, 1977. They moved to Newark, Ohio in 1981, and stayed there for the rest of their lives, raising their children and becoming active in the community. Joe loved sports and volunteered to coach both of his children in just about anything as they grew up, and the three shared a lifelong love of baseball. He enjoyed traveling, especially family road trips, and loved to vacation at any beach, where he would happily bob in the ocean for hours on end. As his children grew up, Joe would travel the country with his daughter in search of colleges and grad schools, and take countless road trips to watch his son umpire professional baseball games. When his children married, he welcomed both his son- and daughter-in-law to the family with open arms, and considered them his kids, too.
In recent years he spent much of his free time visiting his children and grandson in Seattle, Washington and Lakeland, Florida. He found a sense of joy in his later years, and could often be found participating in Masonic Lodge events, attending concerts, taking long walks with his dog, and spending time with friends.
Joe is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Timothy Borrelli; his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson, Jeffrey, Melissa, and Carter Gosney; and his faithful cocker spaniel, Shadow. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017, at 10:00 am at Brucker Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st Street, Newark, OH 43055. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Monday and from 5:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Buffalo, NY, on Wednesday, October 25.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Joe and Shadow's names to the Licking Country Humane Society, 825 Thornwood Drive, Heath, Ohio 43056.
