EduKids, the region's largest day care business, has won approval to build a new, $2.5 million day-care center on Main Street in Amherst just outside the town's only gated community.
EduKids plans to move its center now located at 235 College Parkway to a building it would own at 6286 Main St., near Stonham Way, on a 1.7-acre parcel along the driveway that leads into Marrano/Marc Equity's Greythorne luxury patio home subdivision.
EduKids' developer, Kulback's, would construct a single-story, 10,600-square-foot building for the day care's 22 employees and 100 customers.
The Amherst Planning Board on Thursday approved the project site plan and found it would not harm the environment. But board members did raise concerns about traffic at the intersections of Stonham, Main and Tech Drive, and they directed town planners to find out from the state Department of Transportation if a traffic signal is required.
EduKids, founded in 1989 by Nancy Ware, has 14 locations, including three in Amherst.
