Amherst police make arrest in January shooting on Hartford Road

Amherst police have made an arrest in a shooting in January on Hartford Road.

Police from Amherst and Cheektowaga served a search warrant Friday morning on Marne Road in Cheektowaga and took Raaquim McCrayer into custody, according to Amherst police.

McCrayer, 25, of Cheektowaga, is charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon in the Jan. 28 shooting of a man outside a house on Hartford, off Millersport Highway. Police said the victim, who hasn't been named, was shot multiple times but survived.

Amherst Detective Lt. Dan McCollum said he couldn't reveal how the investigation led to McCrayer, nor whether another arrest is pending. Police initially said they were searching for a driver who may have offered a ride to the gunman.
