A new Williamsville deli plans to offer sandwiches, soups and salads to the Main Street crowds.
Christine Gerard and her husband Greg are opening Main Street Deli at 5546 Main St. The space was previously Main Street Popcorn.
Greg Gerard is an insurance professional, but has worked in numerous delis over the years, and has long wanted to run one of his own, Christine Gerard said. It will be their first restaurant.
It'll be a sandwich shop plus deli, starting customers' days with breakfast sandwiches and coffee. It'll deliver them lunches of panini, wraps, soups and salads. Eventually it'll bolster takeaway dinners by selling deli salads, like potato and macaroni, by the pound, she said.
The Main Street Deli will feature Boar's Head meats, and sell them by the pound as well. Breakfast egg sandwiches will be griddled, not microwaved, and choices will include gluten-free buns.
"We have a little seating, like a bar, but most of it will be takeout and delivery," he said. The Gerards have no plans for alcohol.
At first, it will be open six days a week, closed Sundays.
"Everyone is so excited for us to open, they're counting down the days," Gerard said. Hopefully they'll be open by the end of October.
"We've been saying two weeks for a months," she said. "Hopefully this time it's really true."
