A quote Bills cornerback E.J. Gaines made in 2014 regarding Buccaneers wideout Mike Evans has resurfaced.
Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times sent a tweet with Gaines' comment this morning:
Bills' CB E.J. Gaines to ESPN in 2014 on Mike Evans: "To see him go in the 1st round and see me go in the 6th is a little crazy to me."

Let's unpack what Gaines said.
In 2012 with Texas A&M, Evans had eight grabs for 99 yards and a score against Gaines' Missouri team.
The large wideout made a 29-yard grab down the sideline and reeled in a five-yard touchdown with Gaines in coverage. Gaines finished that game with three pass breakups.
The following season against the Tigers, Evans mustered just four receptions for eight yards, his worst performance in his two-year stint with the Aggies. Gaines had six tackles but no pass breakups in that contest.
As rookies in 2014, Evans and Gaines matched up in Week Two as respective members of the Buccaneers and Rams. Evans had four grabs for 47 yards. Per Pro Football Focus, Evans had one reception for seven yards with Gaines in coverage.
So, while Evans has gone on to make one Pro Bowl and one All-Pro Team and Gaines is on his second NFL club, the original comment from Buffalo's cornerback did have some reasonable justification at the time it was spoken.
