Plan for a new Main Street bar in University District on hold

A controversial plan to open a bar on Main Street that appeals to people as young as 18 is on hold.

University District Common Council Member Rasheed N.C. Wyatt sent the plan back to the Council's Legislation Committee for further information.

"We're going to talk to the law department to see if there's standing not to approve it," Wyatt said. "Residents don't want it, and I don't think I have a legal leg to stand on to deny it because it will be the same use as before."

Anthony J. Sordetto wants a special-use permit to open Main Place at 3144 Main St. Documents filed with the city say the establishment will be a "restaurant that serves alcohol and has live music" and would be open Wednesday through Sunday from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m.
