No charges filed at this time against mother of boy who fell into gorge

Niagara Parks Police in Ontario said Monday they have not as of this time charged the mother of a 10-year-old boy who was badly injured when he fell about 80 feet off a railing into the gorge near the base of the Horseshoe Falls over the weekend as she was taking a picture of him.

Police said they had no update on the boy's condition from McMaster Children's Hospital in Hamilton, Ont., where he was taken Sunday. He was last reported in serious but stable condition. The agency wouldn't identify the boy or his mother.

The boy was visiting Niagara Falls, Ont., from another country with his family and was sitting on the gorge railing around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. When he tried to adjust himself for the picture, he lost his balance and fell, police reported.
